MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
Yesterday's story about the loose cat prompted Gary Jones (our GAS website chap) to recount the following tale from a trip he & his family made around the USA in their Cessna 172 some years ago:
"Shortly after leaving Jackson Hole in Wyoming and climbing over the rest of the Rockies, my youngest son, sitting up the back, suddenly announces the presence of a mouse. Being a regular joker, he was ignored. A day or two later we night-stopped at Joliet south of Chicago. When reading the notices on the board, there was an interesting article about a mouse that downed a plane (PA18 from memory) after chewing through control cables. The sectors home to New York passed without incident.
Opening up the aircraft a week later, the smell told its own story!
We never found the mouse, but we did find 5 very young, very dead ones behind the padding near the rudder pedals. It took ages to get rid of that smell. We reckon the mother had climbed the rear tie-down ropes in Jackson while it was parked for a week, made a nest and given birth then probably left in search of food at North Platte or Omaha en route. It is probably good for us that she missed her flight out".

Spanair will cease operations at midnight after Qatar A/W pulled out of takeover talks.
