My second choice, well what can I say. This man is a legend.
A graduate from West Point, his operational military flying service started in World War II where he flew P-38 Lightning's and later P-51 Mustang's. During this time he became an ace. He was also commanding officer of 1 Squadron, RAF based at Tangmere flying Meteor's after the War.
After missing out on Korea, he went on the fly F-4 Phantom's during Vietnam, where he also commanded the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, based at Ubon, Thailand.
His aircraft were distinctive, as all were named 'Scat', most famously his Phantom being 'Scat XXVII'.
Following his time in Vietnam he went on to serve with the USAF Academy and as the Director of Aerospace Safety before retirement in the 1970's.
I have also had the pleasure of seeing Brig Gen Olds at Duxford Flying Legends a few years back, which was a very humbling moment.
