Shouldn't be that hard to place them eventually (key word). The A340 may not be an efficient aircraft, but there are smaller carriers out there that would take them with open arms.

Seeing as the A340 has lost out to more efficient twins, I can't imagine a carrier would be that interested, especially a small airline with limited funds unless they're already operating the 340. Of course, if the price is right all bets are off...

Is USAirways still looking for A340s?

Wherever they end up, it's pretty much a no-brainer that they will be placed somewhere. Still too young to be soda cans.

Was USAir ever looking for 340s? They recently took delivery of their first A330-200s - they also bought A350s so it seems they're buying twins. Gulf Air's quad jets may do some time in the desert.

They might, but I doubt it will be their final resting place. In hard economic times like these it's hard for a lot of things to find a home, and it might be a year or more before somebody takes them, but eventually somebody most likely will.
