So if you had your own airline what aircraft types would you have in your fleet, give us your views.

Also what name would you give your airline?

I'd start off with one of these and maybe not change the name much at all

Batfink Air would be flying 777s. I'd never been on one up until last January and then went on three in the space of a couple of weeks and absolutely loved them - they completely blew my other long-haul flights (747s and an A330) out of the water, though admittedly, a large part of that was probably down to Emirates' customer service.

I'd probably also have to put some DC-3s in there too, just because a flight on one of them was the most fun I've ever had on an aircraft.

... Well, definately a four engined aircraft anyway, and for longer sectors/flight times - a few A380's (the largest, most comfortable and quietest passenger aircraft to ever take to the skies) that's brought cities together, brought people closer and reminded us all that we can do extraordinary things

Without hesitation, I would locate a fleet of P & W PT-6-67 powered DC-3s for short/medium haul and Lockheed L-188 Electras for the longer sectors; to Wombat-Land and the balmy South Pacific Islands. Would not bother going any further...too much trouble and strife in that North Hemisphere place. My pax. would just amble along at 200 and 340 knots at flight levels where they could relax and take in the view. Seat pitch would actually fit real human being dimensions; like they used to....anyone remember those days?????

I would probably go with some 777 (as opposed to the A340 for economics reasons). I would definitely consider the A380 if I was operating in very congested airports and if the extra capacity was needed (this would be a better option than the 747-400 or 747-8). Then I would most likely select some A321, A320, A319 for medium haul flights (I simply prefer them over the 737). Finally, I would select the Embraer 170 (over the CRJ-700 because of the more comfortable cabin).

If I was considering ordering some new aircrafts for future expansion plans, I would definitely be looking at replacing my 777 with some A350-1000 and replacing the A319 for Bombardier’s C-Series. I would give the 787-9 some serious look too.

My World Airways would include:

Long Haul:  B-777LR

Medium Haul:  A-330-200

Short Haul:  A-320 series

Regional:  E-170/190 series

And a few AMPH CARAVANS!!!

I would purchase/lease the aircraft assets which produced the most positive value in my capital appraisal process  (NPV is technically superior) with regard to other factors such as my oppotunity cost of capital.

The dominant factor would be providing the highest possible return to the shareholders of the airline, the assets (aircraft) that deliver this, are the ones I would choose

All other considerations are superflous

I wouldn't do it. There is an old saying, the quickest way to make a Million is to start an airline with a Billion.

But if I was forced too, I would start with Narrow body aircraft. Sticking to one airframe type i.e. B737 or A320 (keeping the dash numbers the same as well) is a must.

Name wise, depending on the region, I would stick with something that would appeal to the market and have room to grow. Something like Appleet Airlines (NYC, Big Apple) or Winavair (Chicago, Windy City).

My airline would be called Zephyr Airways and it would be a long haul carrier. In my aircraft selection process I would pit Boeing against Airbus and come up with the best deal. In the mix would be B 777, B 787, A 350. I would also research the A 380. I would investigate using the top deck strictly for high end seating. Business class, first class, and super premium seating such as very expensive sleeper cabins and the whole lower floor economy and economy deluxe.

...and most importantly - I'd pick all the air hostesses myself

Without any shadow of a doubt, the immaculately elegant Vickers/BAe Super VC10, the most marvellous, solid and versatile craft ever built, and the A340 Airbus (any configuration).

My airline would be called AirFlair

Best wishes, aviatorchris

Goose, what would you have in your airline?Big Smile

I like the idea of an A380 combi. Give the whole lower deck over to carry on baggage and be the airline with the biggest and bestest baggage allowance. Cool

Good idea 7K7

In my fleet i would have

A380 for its capacity

Concorde for speed and comfort

Boeing 757 for those medium/longhaul flights

Embraer 170/190 to cover regional routes

And a GV for myself

"Boeing 757 for those medium/longhaul flights" .. and for its eleganceYes

What seating layout would you have on your Concodes? Would you go all the way up to 128 or have fewer? I could imagine kitting it out as super premium with about 40 to 50 seats and a kind of lounge in the middle or at the back. Compete with the all business class trans Atlantic operations out there.
