I've just read that in Japan the use of helicopters for water bombing of the nuclear plant has been stopped because of high radiation level.
In the recent years we have seen the birth and the developement of UAV technology in fixed wing.
When such a technology will be available in heavy helicopter market?
Even a small fleet of unmanned Chinooks or Sea-Stallions or whatever, that could be deployed worldwide on short term is a "must have" for many crisis today. Helicopter has also been used in the Chernobyl disaster as well as in volcanos emergencies (USAF used a Sea Stallion on Etna volcano in Sicily for example).
Technology is well available....
We don't let our pilots to fly mission in Afghanistan, but we let them lose their lives over exposed reactors?
The world is starting rethinking nuclear power... aviation has to do its part as well, I guess....
