A PLANE had to be dismantled after a clumsy passenger dropped their mobile phone in an air vent.

Bewildered holidaymakers were told they couldn’t board their Jet2 flight back to Tyneside because the aircraft was not allowed to take-off while the handset remained switched on.

They watched as the cockpit area and three rows of seats were taken apart as engineers searched for it.

“The whole of the front section around the cockpit and the door was raised up like a tin of beans, then they brought all the big lifting gear out.
