Decided on a short trip to Milan and Rome with Easyjet, never having been to Rome
and needing loads of domestic Alitalia MD80's - i know i left it too late but thats life eh!

Milan MXP 04/03;

Haven't been here for several years. Arrived at T2, the old charter terminal, solely used by
Easyjet now and got the shuttle bus around to T1. MXP is very quiet compared to my last visit.
Alitalia have now concentrated on Rome as a hub with only around 10 aircraft operating at MXP,
we saw 1 777/767/M80/E170 and the rest airbuses, no 319's though. Easyjet were probably the busiest
airline along with Lufthansa/Lufthansa Italia. A few biz and cargo movements also seen to keep us
awake along with a pack of cards to pass the time. Spotted from The Mcdonalds in T1 all day with no
problems, only ventured outside to get the aircraft parked on the remote stands to the left of T1 as
the weather was lousy all day, heavy rain.

stayed at the Roma Hotel and Suites, about 10 mins away, cost €140 for a triple room, was supposed
to have a shuttle but only operates 0700-2000 -  we arrived at 2230 - they don't tell you that so
then had to spend another €30 on a taxi but hotel nice when we got there.

Rome FCO 05/03;

Much busier than MXP, hardly time to play cards! Have read people having problems spotting before (one of
the reasons i never went) so hired a car just in case, was only £30 for a day. In the event we didn't need it.
After getting off the suttle bus we had a walk down to the Alitalia hangers to get what we could parked up then spotted
all day in the cafe in Terminal 'C'. Had no problems all day, bought coffee regularly (€1.20) .
All departing aircraft were taking off in front of us so never missed anything and during the afternoon arrivals
were landing in front of us too - turned out that very strong winds in the Rome area meant FCO was down to a one
runway operation, lots of delays, including our flight home which arrived at FCO pretty much on schedule but left over 1½ late.
