Hi everyone,

It's my first post on this blog so I will introduce myself first.

I'm Yoann Galland, a French student for a Master at ITIN, a engineering school, at 30Km above Paris.
I also work for PSA Peugeot Citroen like Web Developer.

As part of my training for the M2I (Manager en Ingénierie de l'informatique - Manager in Computer Engineering),
I choose to do my thesis on the aerospace manufacturers : "The antitrust law and the WTO fighting against monopolies, does they are protect Airbus and/or Boeing ?"

In it I explain subjects like the influence of the national culture on the international trades.
Or the strategic choices of manufacturers to adapt their products to customers' needs.

Is why I am looking for people who can help me and that I can "interview".
So if you have the courage to answer to the following questions that's will help me a lot.

Before you start to answer, you need to know that I have to report some answers in my thesis.
I also need information from the interviewee (name, job, company, email).

You can contact me by my mail, ygalland[at]cergy.itin.fr or by private message.
So If you don't want to give those information, just reply to this post because all the point of views are important.

Thank you to have taking the time to read this post,

Cordially,
Yoann GALLAND

Questions :

Question 1 : Do you think of the Comac will catch up the Boeing and Airbus?

Question 2 : The different disputes between Boeing and Airbus do/did they influence the choice of certain airliners ?

Question 3 : Do you think that the development of green engine is the main ?

Question 4 : The process to choose a plane is long and complex. Each plane is on a segment, but what are the main points which help the airliners to choose a plane rather than another ?

Question 5 : China and Emirates can change the market by their huge needs ?

Question 6 : For you what are the next market which will appeared in the future ?

Question 7 : The green technologies will help a manufacturer to take the advantage in the worldwide market ?

Dear Yoann :

I am not sure how much I can satisfactorily answer your queries, but I would share some pointers on this.

I am an engineer, and will be starting my PhD in Aerospace Engg. soon. Hence, I can give u some technical ideas ( I`m not very knowledgeable abt the management part)

1) In my view, the Comac has a long way to go before it can compete with Boeing and Airbus, since both have an impressive product range. But the greatest factor is that both Boeing and Airbus aircraft  have a decent track record , alongwith a database of the "known issues" with the planes , which can be used to predict airplane life and safe operating conditions.

This is not the case with Comac.Though the design may be good, no one knows for sure it actual performance/problems associated with it ( unless it is flown for a few years). This is a big safety concern for major airline operators ,and they may wait and watch the Comac for a few years before buying it.

So, Comac cannot even compete with Boeing and Airbus for the first few years of its service. If it performs well, then maybe in 10-15 years it can affect the Boeing-Airbus sales in the medium range plane category, by diverting the sales in its favor.

But otherwise, both these companies are too large and trustworthy, having a greater product range, to be "caught up " by Comac with a single product.

3) yes, the green technology is of great importance in current Aero R & D. GE is working on more efficient gas turbines (jet  engines). However, its not only in engines but even weight reduction of aircraft structure ( like Boeing 787) can be a green technology. This can result in great reductions in operating costs for airliners, and so, ur right- Green Tech is the future.

4)  the main factors

       -  the range of the plane and the distance of the route

       -  operating cost of the plane

      -   The capacity of the plane... greater capacity = greater profit. eg. A-380.

6) The main technologies are many and evolving. The blended wing design is one such promising technology, and is highly efficient compared to current aircraft.

Also, there are many developments in renewable energy based flight:

And of course, the manufacturer will benefit greatly from green technologies in future, with the market now moving towards environ-friendly measures.

Let me know if my reply was useful to you.

Thanks.
