In an order totalling €9 million ($11.7 billion), Lufthansa has confirmed its position as Airbus’s best airline customer. For the carrier’s short haul operations, Lufthansa’s board has approved the purchase of 100 A320 aircraft: 35 A320neo, 35 A321neo and 30 A320ceo with sharklets.
It is the carrier's third order for A380s and its fleet already includes 10 of the double-decker superjumbos. Airbus claims substantial fuel savings with the planes: a 4% reduction with the A320ceo with sharklets and a 15% cut with the A320neo. The A380 is marketed as burning 12% less fuel than its nearest competitor. The Lufthansa Group currently operates 385 Airbus aircraft: 271 A320s, 41 A330s, 63 A340s, and 10 A380s.
