Terminal 2 at Mexico City Airport has opened with AeroMexico, AM Connect, LAN, Copa, Delta, AeroMar and Continental all using the facility with 23 airbridged gates and 8 remote stands. The new terminal is linked with the old one with a monorail train.

The Mexican Government have also recently announced plans to construct a new 3-runway Mexico City Airport with a capacity of handing 60 million passengers a year. The idea would be to demolish current Benito Juarez Mexico City Airport. This follows the government's 2001 plan to have a 6 runway airport which was strongly opposed by local farmers and residents.
