Is it a good idea? I'm not so sure. At least if you're on a bus or train you can get up and move away from them and some trains have quiet carriages with a ban on mobile phones.
What if you're on a long haul flight and you end up sitting next to an insomniac weirdo who talks to his mother in Poughkeepsie? And she's a bit hard of hearing so he has to shout!
I am totally against the idea of them being allowed. It would do my head in having to listen to people chatting about nothing or people pretending to do multimillion pound deals over the phone!
I always aim to get in the quiet zone of trains but even in them people still chat on the mobiles.
Now that the EC has approved the use of mobile phones on airplanes, the Telegraph in a very "Daily Mail" Styley has created the Telegraph Travel’s online petition . This petition has already garnered 6,000 signatures.
I think of it more from an annoyance standpoint than anything else. You can just imagine some cases of phone rage after some idiot has been blathering on about their bloody meeting while you are trying to get some sleep
