Museum homes for retired Shuttles announced

It seems that the places go to -

  • Discovery - National Air and Space Museum outside Washington DC
  • Enterprise - Intrepid Air and Space Museum in New York
  • Atlantis - Kennedy Space Center in Florida
  • Endeavour - California Science Center in Los Angeles

I was a bit surprised by the choices of New York and Los Angeles over Houston, is New York because the Intrepid is already such a big tourist draw and LA to perhaps to get one on the West coast so people there get a chance to see one? I'm not for a second suggesting that NY and LA don't deserve them, it's just that Houston seemed an obvious choice.
