This is just typical of this terrible government we have here in the UK! Clearly they haven't a clue about defence!
Shops give you money back guarentees if you dont like their goods say within 90 days. Its a shame that we cant do the same with governments because there is no doubt even all the Torys would want rid of this bunch of no marks!
Everyone knows we should be keeping the Nimrods and i am sure that even the government knows it deep down but unfortuantely they havent got the balls to admit their mistake and stop the scrapping of the Nimrods!
This is what i like to hear:
Lets hope more MPs join in and try to make the government back down on this huge mistake they are making!
Here is a link to a web-site that has been set up to ask the government for our money back for the Nimrod - now that they have started to destroy them!
I dont mind so much the removal of the Nimrod, as it was bad choice for an airframe. (Refubished P 3 would have been better), but the complete abscence of a maritime patrol capability, to monitor the one asset this country has left:, North Sea Oil and Gas.
I worked out there for 17 years and whenever their was an emergency be it oil related or a fishing boat, or a yacht a Nimrod or Orion was on the scene quickly to co-ordinate the response.
If there were a Piper Alpha or helicopter ditching are we relying on the Norwegian or a passing American Orion?
Half a dozen surplusOrions could have been bought with an avionics fit similar to the Canadians
