Shortly after Emirates’ announcement of a revived service to Libya, Qatar Airways has brought in direct flights to Tripoli, as well as to Casablanca.Direct flights from Doha to Tripoli and Casablanca will start from June 1. Tripoli is currently served via Alexandria while Casablanca is now being routed via Tunis. After pulling out of Libya amid its recent political upheaval, Qatar Airways re-introduced flights to Libya via Alexandria in February 2012. Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said the re-introduction of non-stop flights to Tripoli and Casablanca demonstrated the airline’s commitment to North Africa. "We are delighted to resume non-stop flights from June 1 to our two popular North African destinations," he said. "Today’s announcement is a significant step by Qatar Airways as we show our continued confidence in North Africa. This means more capacity and improved travel times to and from Tripoli and Casablanca to destinations across our network." A daily service to Tripoli will now fly from Doha at 9.35am, arriving in Tripoli at 2pm. From Libya, the flight takes off at 3pm to touch down in Doha at 9.10pm. Doha–Casablanca flights will operate daily, leaving at 2.45am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and at 9.45am on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Return flights take off at 11am and 8.15, respectively.
Qatar Airways also serves Benghazi with four direct flights each week from Doha.Source: routesnews, Piers Evans
