News on this outbreak is already affecting shares, with BA  down 7%. Qantas 4%, and Air France/KLM  and Luthansa down 6-12 points this morning! This outbreak couldn't have happened at a worst time for airlines where demand is already an issue!!

Google maps documenting the outbreak cases Pink markers are suspect, Purple markers are confirmed, Deaths lack a dot in marker, Yellow markers are negative:

Ryanair's CEO Michael O'leary was in typical form yesterday, announcing that the Swine Fever outbreak will not impact their European travel ambitions, believing that all you need to cure it is a couple of strepsils Indifferent

Re: RE: Airlines and airports respond to swine flu outbreak

    Hello guys.

Well, I have just returned from a business travel and I saw in the SBCF (Confins International Airport) a lot of airline's employees using a mask trying to avoid the Influenza H1N1 (Swine flu).

Every international airport has your own action plan agains the H1N1.

Now I realize that the brazilian people are very scared.
I was wondering, this virus can travel into the air. Imagine how is the environment inside the airplane in a 10 hour flight?

Well I'm using mask to get inside the airplanes that are returning from international flights.

    Take care

    Regards

What Ho merrie global aeronautical persons. Am back on my home NZ deck again after swanning about the Aussie holding pattern for a month. Got held inside a QANTAS  machine at Auckland yesterday whilst a pax. showed signs of overtemping and making piggy noises whilst devouring his swill...er! I say again; tucker. We were eventually released after they escorted the poor swine off shrouded in masks and stuff. Lunch out of Brisbane was delayed whilst Captain conferred with various bods by means of the wonder of our age; his wireless set I believe they are called. The cabin crew ladies looked charming in their masks. Security at Brissie is rigourous indeed. Mrs Dakota was hustled away from my side as it was suspected that she might have been hiding explosive material within her bulky jacket and the waist-band type document/money belt she uses when amongst the Wombat-Landers. I tried to reassure them that, whilst she might terrorise me, she posed no threat to the aircraft and I would moderate her tendency to exclaim "Dakota dear; what is that banging and whining noise?" whenever the pilot wallahs dropped their gear or extended their flap thingys.

But seriously men, the Aussie security system is as good as I have seen...full marks to them.....and Aussie beer is almost as good as our Kiwi brews. May I be permitted a small original joke of mine own?

"Why do Aussies wear those broad-brimmed hats? Because their Koala bears are not tree-trained!" Marks out of 10?
