    This move highlights that even the bigger airlines are in trouble from this economic 'crisis' and these steps to alleviate cashflow are a necessary if unwelcome step.

    Just imagine a few years ago when the world's economy was booming, having to instigate these measures to survive : annual leave, long service leave, attrition, redeployment, leave without pay, promoting part-time work and job-sharing. Redundancies, however, will be "unavoidable".
