 Y'know I would except it's nor more than anybody else is suggesting except for Bob Zubrin. With his concept - 20 years old now - we could be on Mars well before the next decade is out - if NASA hadn't trashed Pad 39B for "THE STICK"...

I say bring back the RS-84, tri/pair it in LRB's, strap 'em to the ET with the side-saddle power pack, and go with Zubrin's idea wholesale. Just make sure the Mars Astro's have had their kids!

All bureaucrats(oh, and politicians!) MUST die!
