Virgin Galactic has already made space flight history by producing the first privately manned spacecraft to fly 100 km. The spacecraft SpaceShipOne accomplished this space mission.

As of September 2011 there were around 450 ticket holders and each ticket holder has placed a 10% deposit ($20,000) with a view to paying the full $200,000 per person for a space flight. Unlike most forms of air travel, take off and landing is at the same spaceport. The actual flight time will be around 2 hours, of which approximately 6 minutes will be in zero gravity.

The craft that will transport space tourists will reach a maximum speed of around Mach 3 (1000 m/s), which is faster than fighter jets. The first commercial ships are going to be name after the Star Trek fictional star ships Enterprise and Voyager. WhiteKnightTwo is the name of the carrier aircraft that will thrust the star ships into outer space.
