The low-cost carrier will fly to Bologna, Beziers, Cagliari, Corfu, Katowice and Santander, from Edinburgh, and Rzeszów and Warsaw Modlin from Glasgow Prestwick.

The airline previously cut its winter 2012 schedule at Edinburgh following the breakdown of cost negotiations with previous owners BAA.

Ryanair will also increase frequencies on five other routes from Edinburgh, and four further routes from Glasgow.

CEO Michael O’Leary said: “We’re delighted to announce our Scottish summer 2013 schedule, which will deliver more than three million a year and sustain more than 3,000 jobs at Edinburgh and Glasgow Prestwick Airports.”

“This is a prime example of what can be achieved by dismantling the BAA monopoly and we look forward to further growth at Edinburgh Airport under its new ownership.”

BAA – now known as Heathrow – was forced to sell Edinburgh Airport to Global Infrastructure Partners earlier this year, following a ruling by the Competition Commission.
