Soyuz 39 (8th Intercosmos flight)
Col Vladimir Alexandrovich Dzhanibekov (Soviet Air Force, commander), left, with Capt Jugderdemidyin Gurragcha (Mongolian Army, cosmonaut researcher) during rehearsals.
They were launched on March 22, 1981 and studied Mongolia's ore, oil and gas resources, tectonic faults and highland pastures, landing 106 miles south-east of Dzhezkazgan on 30 March after a 7 day 20hr 43min flight.
Looks like something from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
"Hello Dave ..."
This week's answer:The international crew of Soyuz-39, V. Dzhanibekov (left) and Zh. Gurragcha are pictured at the Gagarin cosmonauts' training center in march 1981.
I agree though, it is very reminscient of 2001
