Departures from Washington National airport's longest runway were
halted today after a Stearman
biplane flipped on arrival.
The accident happened around 1015 (1815 GMT) at the southern end of
the airport's north-facing 6,900ft runway 1.
While the airport is closed to unscheduled operations and special
charters, the accident happened as a flight of eight Stearman biplanes
was on arrival to as part of a press event promoting Legends of Flight
3D IMAX film which opens this week.
Both the pilot and passenger (a journo for the Washington Post) made it out alive. Wow.
