Many words have been written about the two artificial legs fighter ace. For me his the symbol of the passion for flying, which I admire back from a time our destiny today still depend on.
What other than flying(....yes we know btw) can make a man rise from almost "never be able to walk again" to train walking and FLYING thereafter with TWO artificial legs. The artificial legs even saved his life once, as he got stuck in the Spitfire cockpit after a dogfight/collision over mainland Europe. He survived by releasing the legs. Later the German airforce got so impressed they allowed two new replacement legs to be dropped from a english bomber on way to another mission. Story has is he even managed to escape German hospitals/prisons, but in the end his legs was taken under 100% German control. His biography is a read to end once you grap it. What a gent and passion.
I think he deserves to be a nominee in the "persons cat".
