Traffic on Canadas two major airlines rose in October, while their planes remained about as full as the year before.
Calgary-based WestJet saw its traffic climb last month by 6.7 per cent, year over year, on a capacity increase of 6.7 per cent.
"We reported another strong load factor and achieved a new record for the month of October by carrying over 1.3 million guests," WestJet CEO Gregg Saretsky said in a release. "Demand kept pace with our capacity additions this month and our forward bookings remain healthy."
Air Canada saw its traffic increase two per cent over the year before, on a capacity boost of 3.2 per cent.
"We experienced continued traffic increases in the domestic Canada, U.S., South Pacific-Latin America-Caribbean markets, and overall traffic growth systemwide," Air Canada CEO Calin Rovinescu said in statement.
WestJet's planes were, on average, 77.4 per cent full for the month, the same as a year earlier, while Air Canada's dropped 0.9 percentage points to 79.4 per cent for October 2011 from 80.3 per cent in October 2010.
