VIDEO: Air Canada 777 aborts landing at LHR to avoid Continental 777 on 27L

A very lucky capture of an Air Canada Boeing 777-300ER aborting its landing on Heathrow's 27L. Turn the volume up to fully appreciate the roar of the GE90 engines as she climbs and performs a go-around.

But why did the plane abort? Well, moments before the Air Canada 777-300ER is seen here making her final approach, a Continental Airlines 777-224ER (N74007) had just landed. Either the Air Canada came in too quickly behind or the Continental Airlines simply hadn't cleared the runway in time because it was still occupying the runway at the time.

This video was taken relatively early in the morning when Heathrow is arguably at its busiest. This was just one of around 9 aborted landings that we saw the day this was filmed.

Another aborted landing I was lucky enough to capture was this BA 747-400 - again coming into land on Runway 27L, this time it was to avoid a fox becoming FOD.

Great video's, mcpcshowcaseHD. Just out of curiosity though, does anyone happen to know how many aborted landings (and take-off's) there are at Heathrow during a year? John.
