National carrier Vietnam Airlines signed a memorandum of understanding Thursday with Airbus parent EADS for the purchase of four superjumbo passenger jets, company vice president Marwan Lahoud said.
Vietnam is the first new A380 client since 2006, Lahoud said, adding that the average cost of each plane was 200 to 300 million dollars.
The signing of the MOU coincided with a three-day visit by French Prime Minister Francois Fillon in Hanoi and marks the latest step in Vietnam Airlines' fleet expansion plans.
The French premier's visit is intended to help strengthen trade ties between France and the fast growing communist country.
The national carrier is the first new customer for the aircraft Airbus since 2006.
