B-747 or DC-3? I guess when you younger folk compare the two types, it must look like a no-brainer decision. Of course, you declare, the 747 is much bigger and much faster. Ergo; it must be the best and most significant airliner of the past 100 years. However, as I quietly mentioned a few weeks ago, this forum is not about bulk or speed or cents per bum/km. And it is certainly not about which was the most important civil aircraft post WWII. I believe most would agree that both types rank very high in our air transport history. perhaps it might almost warrant a tie? But if the mighty 747 can heave itself up onto the winners podium, I hope we see the humble old workhorse, my beloved geriatric DC-3, permitted to stand proudly, nose-high, under a wing of the also aging 747......
