The sales and purchases are due to take place in 2014 and 2015, cutting the average age of the Canadian carrier’s fleet by about one year, said the carrier. In addition, WestJet has deferred delivery of five B737-700 aircraft from 2014 and 1015 until 2016 and 2017.
WestJet currently flies exclusively B737s, of which it owns 59. The deals were announced in the Calgary-based airline's financial results for the three months to March 31. Over the quarter, WestJet announced new direct routes between Toronto and Myrtle Beach and between Calgary and Dallas. A codeshare with Air France was also agreed during the quarter, giving WestJet a total of 31 partnerships with other carriers.
