    Whatever happened to innovation

What ever happened to the innovative and very advanced designs that came out of the post WW11 German aircraft industry. Examples of this innovation are

The Dornier range of aircraft such as the Do-31, the Do-?28 series of aircraft, the VFW 614 and, the Hansa jet to list but a few?

The Transall C-160 was a success why wasn't it further developed e.g. why was a enlarged 4 engined version not developed to compete against the C-130?

Because Europe  hasn't yet made the leap to some degree of more coordinated procurement plan in its armed forces. They don't make massive single buys of 300 plus C-160s, Belfasts, Nimrods or Typhoons or Mirages?
