Venice-based Eagles Airlines has been created as a successor to local carrier AlpiEagles. Like its predecessor, which ceased operations in December 2007, Eagles Airlines plans to operate Fokker 100s on domestic routes. Plans call for the route network to link Venice with mainland cities, including Crotone, Lamezia Terme and Reggio Calabria, as well as the Sardinian cities of Alghero, Cagliari and Olbia; and Catania in Sicily from August 2010. Initial equipment is the first of up to three Fokker 100s (reg I-GIOA, serial 11315), acquired from Jet Trading & Leasing. The aircraft arrived at Venice Marco Polo Airport on 22 July 2010.
