Mexican regional and commuter carrier Transportes Aeromar received two, former Jazz Air, Bombardier CRJ-200ERs (reg XA-UOZ, serial 7544 and XA-UPA, serial 7545) last month, on lease from EDC Lease Finance. The hitherto all-ATR42 operator is yet to confirm the planned routings for the jets, but those that currently exceed 90 minutes flying time are prime candiates for jet service. The carrier, which was previoulsy linked with taking ex-Jazz Air CRJs, both last year and back in 2006, plans to receive a third CRJ-200 mid-year, and envisages a need for up to five of the type. The CRJs seem certain to take over Aeromar's two longest routes, which currently take around 130 minutes in an ATR42: the domestic service between Mexico City and Saltillo and the carrier's only international route*, between San Louis Potosi and San Antonio, Texas.
* This excludes Aeromar's codeshare services, introduced earlier this month, and
flown by Continental Airlines, between Mexico City, Houston and New York.
