Airlines Resuming Services: FAT makes a comeback

The Taiwanese carrier popularly known as FAT, whose full name is Far Eastern Air Transport, plans to relaunch domestic services on 18 April 2011. FAT has finally secured funding from new investors after being grounded for nearly three years. The airline will initially operate twice daily services between Taipei SongShan Airport and the Kinmen archipelago, using McDonnell Douglas MD-82s. FAT previously linked Taipei and Kaohsiung with five domestic cities and regional destinations in Indonesia, Malaysia, Palau, the Philippines, South Korea and Vietnam with a fleet of MD-82/83s and Boeing 757s. The carrier is reported to have reactivated three of its former fleet of MD-82s, which had been in storage since it was forced to suspend operations due to financial difficulties in May 2008.
