The new airline, being created by the South African National Taxi Alliance, is planning to launch operations in November 2011. The carrier will offer flat rate airfares between R500 and R600 ($72-$87) on services initially linking Johannesburg's Lanseria airport with Bisho, the capital city of the Eastern Cape and Cape Town's International airport. The plan is for commuters to board taxis to the outbound airport at local taxi hubs. Onward journeys from the destination airport are also completed by taxi. SANTACO plans to launch a test run on 16 September 2011, flying SANTACO delegates to Durban for celebrations to mark the organisation's 10th anniversary. All services will be operated by Lanseria-based carrier Airquarius Aviation, whose current fleet is entirely made up of Fokker jets: F-28s, Fokker 100s and a single Fokker 70.
