Airlines Resuming Operations: LAMIA plans to restart with RJ85

Línea Aérea Merideña Internacional de Aviación (LAMIA), which was created in a joint venture between the government of the Venezuelan state of Mérida, together with local and Chinese private interests, is hoping to resume operations in the autumn of 2011. The carrier, based in the north western city of Mérida in the Andes, operated its inaugural flight on 16 August 2010, using an ATR72-500 wet-leased from Spanish carrier Swiftair. At that time the fleet plan called for an eventual fleet of up to 12 ATR72s plus a small number of MD-80s to initially serve around 10 domestic airports, with regional services to follow to destinations including Aruba, Bogota, Curacao, Manaus, Medellin and Miami. These plans were set back when the Venezuelan authorities rejected the carrier's Air Operators Certificate (AOC) application in October 2010. LAMIA reapplied for its AOC earlier this year after reportedly resolving the issues which led to the failure of its first application. Contact details, so far are:
