China's largest airline took delivery of its first Embraer E-190 regional jet, a model 100LR (reg B-3197, serial 19000456) on 12 August 2011. The aircraft is the first of 20 on order through CDB Leasing Company (CLC). The carrier has also signed a Letter of Intent to acquire 10 more aircraft, through CLC. The GE CF34-10E5 powered, 98-seat aircraft will be operated from Urumqi in western China by subsidiary China Southern Air Holding Xinjiang Company. Six more E-190s are expected before the end of 2011. The E-190s will operate high-frequency schedules in Xinjiang province, starting on 1 September 2011. The carrier plans to build hub and spoke services to 14 destinations from Urumqi, which is the home of one of China Southern’s 14 branch operations. The city was formally the home of China Xinjiang Airlines, which was absorbed into China Southern during 2003/2004.
