Aircraft Orders: Malaysia Airlines considers delaying Airbus A380 deliveries

Reports in the Malaysian press suggest that Malaysia Airlines is considering deferring the six Airbus A380-800 aircraft it has on order. The first delivery is expected in April 2012 but there are concerns as to whether the airline can utilise the capacity the aircraft will provide. The economies of the airline’s international operation have come under scrutiny as new management focuses on cutting losses. The airline’s new Airbus A380s are expected to replace the aging Boeing 747-400s on the Kuala Lumpur-London route. It has been suggested however, that the airline is now wanting to use its Boeing 777-200ERs which have lower capacity and better fuel efficiency than the Boeing 747s on the route.
