The start-up airline, established in Papua New Guinea by local entrepreneur Eremas Wartoto as part of the SWT Group, is planning to launch low cost domestic services before the end of 2011. The SWT stands for Sarakolok West Transport. Travel Air plans to launch passenger services from its Madang base with the first of six Fokker 50s. The first of four planned passenger aircraft, Fokker 50 (reg P2-TAF, serial 20192) left Maastricht on its long delivery flight on 4 August 2011. The second aircraft (P2-TAE/ 20202) followed on 18 August 2011. Both aircraft are now hangared at Madang, awaiting the planned launch of services. Travel Air is also planning to operate two Fokker 50 freighters from a separate base at Lae, in Morobe Province, and is reported to be interested in acquiring single examples of both the 19-seat DHC-6 Twin Otter and 112-seat BAe RJ85. It was previoulsy reported to be interested in acquiring Bombardier DHC-8s and Fokker 70s or Fokker 100s.
