Airline Start-Ups: Smartair receives first Q400s

The Egyptian start-up airline has taken delivery of its first two Bombardier DHC-8-402Qs (reg SU-SMH, serial 4367 on 16 September 2011 and SU-SMI / 4368 on 22 September 2011). The carrier has also taken options with Bombardier on three more aircraft. Smartair is the new commercial airline arm of Smart Aviation, a corporate jet charter and air ambulance specialist, established in 2007. The Pratt and Whitney Canada PW150A powered Q400s will be used to complement Smart Aviation's corporate aircraft activities throughout the Middle East, operating from Cairo International Airport. The aircraft are expected to operate scheduled and charter services to domestic destinations including Aswan and Sharm el-Sheikh, as well as  other domestic and regional destinations not currently served by other airlines.
