Airline Start-ups: LAC plans to succeed Air Cuenca

LAC Linea Aerea Cuencana is the name of a new Ecuadorian start-up airline conceived as a successor to failed start-up airline Air Cuenca, which had its AOC suspended in June 2011 by the Ecuadorian Direccion de Aeronautica Civil (DAC). The new privately owned carrier was reportedly created with assistance from Venezuelan state-owned carrier Conviasa. LAC applied for its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) on 19 July 2011, and is planning to launch domestic services from its Loja base in early 2012, with two 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145 regional jets.
