Show here is the cavernous inside of 46-acrea Michoud Assembly Plant that was used by Boeing to set up production for the first stage of Saturn V rocket. The size of the first stage absolutely loaded the plant, and so there was not room to also manufacture the second stage of the Saturn V in this plant. North American Aviation built the Saturn V launch vehicle’s second stage while Douglas Aircraft (which later merged with Mercury and Gemini spacecraft manufacturer, McDonnell Aircraft), manufactured the Saturn’s third-stage booster.  (Boeing photo)
