September 20, 1961 - Saturn vehicle, the largest U.S. rocket built to date, 1.5 million pounds of thrust is readied in the gantry at Complex 34. The 28-story tower made up of 2,800 tons of steel at a cost of 4.5 million, will withstand hurricane winds up to 120 miles per hour.
