September 20, 1961 - Saturn vehicle, the largest U.S. rocket built to date, 1.5 million pounds of thrust is readied in the gantry at Complex 34. Service stand automatically are projected out to work on the bird. The gantry 185 feet high, is the world's tallest structure on wheels. The 28-story tower made up of 2,800 tons of steel at a cost of 4.5 million, will withstand hurricane winds up to 120 miles per hour.
