Tornado F3, ZE969/FH, of 25 Squadron sits in the QRA hangar, Leeming, 29 March 2008.

Between May and September 2007, RAF Leeming served as host to QRA North with resident 25 Squadron's Tornados while RAF Leuchars runway was re-surfaced. This coincided with an increase in Russian air activity over the North Sea. On one occasion, 8 Russian Tu-95 Bears came over at once, and on another, 2 Tu-160 'Blackjack' jet-powered strategic bombers came into the region. On each occasion 25 Squadron scrambled in response, to identify, photograph and monitor the Ruusian aircraft as they entered the NATO air policing region that the UK is responsible for.

Well done 25 Squadron, we will miss you.
