The chopper started its service life with the Dutch Navy on 8 June 1962 and was phased out on 29 September 1977. In May 1978 all phased out Dutch Hueys were sold to a company in the US, which was unable to market them because of their Italian engines. Some were donated to a Swedish museum. The 220 and 255 were brought back to the Netherlands to serve as gatekeeper and exhibit at the Dutch Military Aviation Museum at Soesterberg respectively. The Dutch Naval Air Service was disbanded in July 2008 at a time only helicopters served with the MLD. All Dutch air force and navy helicopters are now part of the Dutch Defence Helicopter Command (DHC).
