The tail of Sikorsky S-51 H.R.3 c/n WA/H/62 (ex-British WG752), built by Westland and painted to resemble the famous first helicopter of the Dutch former Naval Air Service, named "Jezebel", at the Aviodrome museum at Lelystad airport in The Netherlands (EHLE) on 29 July 2012. "Jezebel" is standing in front of a wall painting of the flight deck of the second and last aircraft carrier "Karel Doorman" of the Royal Netherlands Navy, with the "island" (with the bridge) visible to the left of the cockpit.
The original Jezebel was Sikorsky built S-51 H-5 c/n 5133, which was acquired by the Dutch Rotorcraft Foundation on 1st October 1949 as PH-HAA. The Naval Air Service of the Royal Netherlands Navy took over the aircraft on 23 December 1951 with registration 8-1. As the S-51 turned out to be difficult to fly, the Dutch Navy pilots called it a "false witch" and named it "Jezebel" after a 1951 hitsong by Frankie Lane, which referred to the biblical figure of Queen Jezebel of Israel, the archetype of a wicked woman. The name "Jezebel" is visible on top of the fuselage. "Jezebel" became famous during the flood in the southwestern part of The Netherlands on 1st February 1953 in which almost 2.000 people drowned. Several people were rescued with "Jezebel" from trees and rooftops. The Navy used the S-51 for plane guard duties on board the "Karel Doorman". The original Jezebel was phased out by the Navy on 24 April 1959 and was broken up around 1967. The "Karel Doorman" was sold to Argentina and renamed "25 de Mayo". It could not take part in the Falklands War because its catapult installation was being overhauled by a Scottish firm at the time.
