Boeing ICH-47D Chinook c/n 3661/NL001 of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) 298 squadron with tailnumber D-661 in the Chinook maintenance hangar at Gilze-Rijen AB on 16 June 2011. All RNLAF Chinooks have got names, painted on the right side of the fuselage. D-661 is called "Red October". The helicopter is an ex-Canadian Air Force CH-47C Chinook, converted to the D standard for the Dutch Air Force. Dutch Chinooks have their registration on three spots: on the front of the forward rotor head, on the side of the aft rotor head and on the top of the clipped rear of the aft rotor head. In contrast with other D-variants the Dutch Chinooks have the special prefix ICH, with I standing for "Improved" and CH for "Cargo Helicopter", because they are the only D-variants with an advanced Avionics Control Management System that provides more logic than the system used in other D-Chinooks.
