Yet another name is added to the list of ailing European airlines. SAS Scandinavian Airlines will scrap 800 jobs and needs an "emergency loan" of 400 million euros as a "last chance" to survive, CEO Rickard Gustafson told the press. This image of a SAS MD-81 on final with clouds in the background is symbolic for the dire situation the company is in. The aircraft is McDonnell Douglas MD-81 c/n 53000 (l/n 1812) OY-KHN "Dan Viking", about to land at Schiphol Amsterdam airport in The Netherlands (EHAM) on 20 September 2012. The aircraft made its first flight on 17 December 1990 and was delivered to SAS on 29 January 1991.
