The latest McDonnell Douglas DC-10 acquired by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) will soon be sold, according to recent plans to cut the budget of the Dutch armed forces. The aircraft was intended to become a KDC-10 for a combined passenger/cargo/tanker role. But already the plans to strengthen the floor for cargo transport had fallen through due to budgetary restraints. The aircraft was also never equipped with a tailboom for the tanker role, like the two KDC-10s currently in use with the RNLAF. This photo of T-255 was taken on 7 September 2011 at Eindhoven air base in The Netherlands (EHEH). The aircraft, McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30CF c/n 46987 l/n 255, made its first flight on 13 June 1978 and first went to World Airways as N105WA on 4 August 1978. It was acquired by United Airways on 1 June 1985 and then became N1858U. The Dutch Air Force bought the aircraft on 29 October 2004. Unlike the two KDC-10s, T-255 has no name.
