McDonnell Douglas MD-11P c/n 48561 (l/n 585) PH-KCG "Maria Callas" of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines causes a right wing vortex after taking off from runway 24-06 at Schiphol Amsterdam airport in The Netherlands (EHAM) on 7 November 2012, while a sudden short burst of late afternoon sun makes the belly shine like mother of pearl. The aircraft was delivered to KLM on 12 May 1995. It is one of only 12 MD-11s still in active passenger service worldwide on the day this image was posted to Flightglobal/AirSpace. Eight are still in the KLM fleet and four fly with World Airways. But this number will be reduced soon as KLM has started phasing out the type.
