NATO AWACS Boeing E-3A Sentry c/n 22855 LX-N 90442 at NATO Air Base (NAB) Geilenkirchen in Germany on 27 May 2011. Note the sensor in the extreme rear of the fuselage. The lion logo on the tail is the national symbol of Luxemburg, which, as smallest partner in the NAT E-3A component, provides the registration of the aircraft. The component is supported by 17 NATO-countries. In 2011 the Czech republic became the latest participant.. Geilenkirchen is an ex-RAF base. The army green painted Geilenkirchen control tower is partially visible under the tail. Note also the fire brigade tenders with the NATO/OTAN logo. NATO is the English abbreviation of the organization (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), OTAN the French (Organisation du Traité de l'Atlantique Nord). In the Dutch language the abbreviation is NAVO (Noord-Atlantische Verdrags Organisatie). See also the Images of the Sentry's cockpit.
