DAHER-SOCATA TBM 850 c/n 578 N500RW on the business aircraft platform at Schiphol Amsterdam airport in The Netherlands (EHAM) on 20 September 2012. The aircraft was manufactured in 2011 and revceived its airworthiness certificate on 31 May 2011. It entered the US register on 9 January 2012.
The TBM 850, introduced in 2006, is a further development of the TBM 700, also known as TBM 700N. The type certificate of the TBM 700 is used for the offical registration and therefore the TBM 850s are on the registers as TBM 700s. The development of the TBM 850 can be trraced back to the Mooney 301. After Mooney was purchased by the French company SOCATA a turboprop version of the 301 became the TBM 700 (TB stands for Tarbes, the French city where the SOCATA head office is located, and the M stands for Mooney). In 2009 the French industrial comglomerate DAHER acquired a majority stake in SOCATA., Since then the company is known as DAHER-SOCATA.
