"The last" Spitfire PS915 over EHVK 15062013
Photo reconnaissance Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk XIX c/n 6S/585121 with RAF livery and registration PS915 over Volkel Airbase (EHVK) in The Netherlands on 15 June 2013 during the Open Days of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF). The aircraft is operated by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF). It was built just after WWII in 1945. PS915 is painted in the colour scheme and markings of Spitfire PS888, a PRXIX of 81 Squadron based at Seletar in Singapore during the Malaya Campaign. This aircraft conducted the last ever operational sortie by an RAF Spitfire on 1 April 1954, hence the text "The last" which was painted on the nose of PS888.
